It takes a combination of talents to make a great horse. Northern Plains Performance Horses starts with legacy lines, like Doc O Dynamite, Freckles Playboy, Frenchmans Guy, Peppy San Badger, Smooth as a Cat, Frosty Feature and Paddys Irish Whiskey.

Then we go beyond the bloodlines. We move cattle, check pastures and sort livestock on our horses. They go to the arena for cutting, working cow horse, reining, speed events, roping and pleasure. Only after they prove themselves to us do we consider their prodigy worthy enough for you.

Working Horses...

Northern Plains Performance Horses is first a working ranch, situated along the Montana and South Dakota border. Owners Deb Brown and Larry Licking raise Quarter Horses, commercial Black Angus and composite cattle, and sub-irrigated alfalfa.

for Ranch and Competition.

Every aspect of ranching that we can use a horse for, we do. Our equine athletes transition from the arena to the pasture, and we know they are better horses because of it. Our broodmares graze on native grasslands year-around, within the shadows of the Long Pines region.
